Quarterback Big Ben’s likely return boosts Pittsburgh Steelers hopes for win this Sunday – NFL News
A good news for the Pittsburgh Steelers who are going into their next game in a must win situation that their star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is likely to be their starter this Sunday.
Amid speculations and rumours on his recovery from an ankle injury Roethlisberger who is also known as the Big Ben finally showed up for practice with his teammates on Wednesday raising hopes for his return for the Steelers next game.
The side is playing the Cleveland Browns in their final game of the current regular season of the National Football League (NFL) into Week 17, and the possible return of Ben boosts their chances for a win.
There were contradictory reports about the recovery of Roethlisberger throughout this week. The team coach Pat Shurmur inspite of the uncertainty surrounding his recovery said that he would wait for the quarterback’s return until the last minute of their
next game. He refused to rule him out after he missed out on practice sessions for straight two weeks.
Big Ben sat out the Steelers last game against the St. Louis Rams due to an ankle injury. He was replaced by Charlie Batch who played well into their win with the final score at 27-0.
He even had not felt fully fit to play in the Steelers game against the San Francisco 49ers a week before the Browns’ game but was added to the side amid controversies and speculations about his recovery.
Following the game there were reports of their coach Pat Shurmur weighing options of sitting Big Ben out of their 49ers coach. The coach refuted the suggestions. Roethlisberger also came out to the coach’s defence saying it was not his fault.
With increased chances of Ben playing in the next game the Steelers are now hopeful for the American Football Conference (AFC) north title, in addition to confirming their berth into playoff.
The side is tied with the Baltimore Ravens with the score of 11-4 atop AFC north. Their rival the Ravens however hold the tiebreaker. However, a win by the Steelers over the Browns and loss by the Ravens against the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend will help
the Ben’s side to claim the divisional title.
The Steelers have beaten the Browns earlier in the season and with Big Ben back in their side they stand greater chances to repeat the same performance and claim a victory in their season’s last game.
