Quarterback Carson Palmer thinks Oakland Raiders do not have any space for Chad Johnson – NFL News
Despite having plenty of injury concerns in the wide receiving corps, it is highly unlikely that Oakland Raiders will acquire services of wide receiver Chad Johnson, who has just been released by Miami Dolphins.
This is the opinion of Johnson’s former teammate and Raiders’ quarterback Carson Palmer who shared these views while talking to CSNBayArea.com on Wednesday, August 22, 2012.
Palmer and Johnson have played alongside each other in their time at Cincinnati Bengals. Both of them moved to Raiders and New England Patriots respectively last year.
Johnson was Palmer’s favourite target during his time at Bengals, but the quarterback thinks that Raiders have enough depth to curtail the injury havoc they are currently in. Palmer said:
“I had a great time playing with Chad. I had no issues with him at all. He'd be a great add for any team but we've got young guys that are just coming along, I mean Denarius will be back any day. Jacoby's deal is not that bad. So we're not going to give
up on any of those guys. They're too good of players and young."
After playing two preseason games, Raiders have a long list of injured players. They include Denarius Moore, who tweaked his hamstring and has failed to participate in practice since then. Jacoby Ford is in precautionary boot as he returns from his foot
injury while Darrius Heyward-Bey returns after getting his shoulder injured during last week’s preseason game against Arizona Cardinals.
Palmer reiterated the fact that Raiders have a good bunch of young wide receivers, who are coming along very well. Johnson, 34, seems highly unlikely to fit in with such a youthful squad.
The quarterback also appreciated Johnson’s skill and said that he will be able to make a comeback. He said:
"I had a great time playing with Chad. I had no issues with him at all. He'd be a great add for any team but we've got young guys that are just coming along.”
It will be very difficult for Johnson to play again if he fails to get a place in any of the league’s roster this season.
