Quarterback Peyton Manning gets his first ever touchdown for Denver Broncos – NFL News
A glimpse of the old Peyton Manning was seen on Sunday, August 26, 2012, as Denver Broncos played against San Francisco 49ers and although Broncos lost the game, the veteran stole the show completely.
As expected, Manning played just the first quarter of the game, but throughout his presence Broncos looked to be the dominant side.
49ers felt relieved after Manning went off the field. They managed to come back and take the game 29-24.
Manning showed his best-ever performance in the Broncos jersey. He managed to get 10 of 12 passes while covering 122 passing yards. He also managed to score two touchdowns.
Previously, media had reported some suspicions about Manning's ability to throw a pass to his right, but all those concerns were put to rest on Sunday as the quarterback threw a superb 16-yard pass to wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.
Manning looked sharp and impressive throughout his time on the field. He had a perfect six-on-six record till the ninth play. Manning’s best throw came when he threw a 38-yard pass to Lance Ball.
It was a very satisfying moment for Manning to finally get a touchdown after many months’ drought. He appreciated his receivers and the rest of the team for their response. The Associated Press quoted Manning as saying:
"I thought we did some good things today. We moved the ball pretty well and we got two touchdowns. It would have been nice to get three, had to settle to for a field goal. I thought the running game was good. Willis (McGahee) made some nice runs, had some
nice holes by the offensive line, the receivers made some nice plays, as well."
Although many teams in the league played more than two quarters with their starting quarterbacks in their third preseason game, Broncos chose to play just one with Manning. It was maybe because Broncos Head Coach John Fox wanted to keep Manning away from
49ers strong pass rushing game.
Fox said:
"I feel very comfortable where he is and rather than put him out there in harm's way, we took him out."
It is most likely that Broncos will rest their first-team for the final preseason game against Arizona Cardinals on Thursday, August 30, 2012.
