Quarterback Rex Grossman to start for Washington Redskins against Dallas Cowboys – NFL News
Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan on Monday confirmed that Rex Grossman is going to start the game against Dallas Cowboys as quarterback in the week 11 game of the National Football League.
Rex joined Redskins in 2010 after playing for Houston Texans and Chicago Bears. The 31-year-old quarterback has started six games for Redskins in the season and has six touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
"Rex is going to be our quarterback," Shanahan said. "When you go with a veteran quarterback, it's pretty easy -- because usually that situation stays pretty much status quo. Unless there's an injury during the week, Rex would
be the quarterback."
Last week, Redskins suffered a humiliating defeat against Miami Dolphins 20-9 at the Sun Life Stadium to lose their fifth straight game. The coach, however, thinks that Grossman played well in that match.
"Everybody says, 'Well, you only had nine points,' but nine points obviously goes to a collective group," he said. "But I thought Rex played well."
Grossman was benched in the week six game against Philadelphia Eagles and John Beck took his place. Beck, who has played four games this season and managed two touchdowns and four interceptions, was replaced by Grossman in the
last game. The coach was satisfied with Beck’s performance as well, but said that the decision regarding the final starting line-up is made in the best interest of the team.
“I like John's talent," Shanahan said. "I like what we have in John, but I'm always going to do what I think is in the best interest of the team to win.
Redskins have been unimpressive so far in the season. They have won only three games with six defeats under their belt that has put them at the bottom of the National Football Conference East division. With 15.1 points and an average
of 310.1 yards (223.4 passing yards and 86.7 rushing yards) per game, they are ranked at 28th spot in the league table.
Recently, the team’s defensive tackle Barry Cofield also urged his teammates to bring significant changes in their game-play and said that that the team would keep on losing the future matches if the game is not improved.
