Quarterback Tim Tebow to help New York Jets in their pursuit of US Olympian Jeff Demps – NFL News
Versatile quarterback Tim Tebow will not only play various roles on the field for his team New York Jets, but will also help the team in some off-field matters.
Tebow’s HR skills will flourish when he will go up to his former teammate and Olympian Jeff Demps to convince him for joining the Jets.
While taking to the media after practice session on Thursday, August 16, 2012, Tebow insisted that he will do whatever possible to get free agent running back Demps in the Jets’ camp. He said:
"They asked me about him, Jeff is a great guy and a great player. He's someone I was proud to play with in college and he did a great job for us. ... Would we love to have him? Absolutely. I'd love to have him as a teammate because I know how hard he works
and what he brings to the table."
Tebow spent two years playing with Demps while he was at University of Florida. Tebow sat alongside Jets’ general manager Mike Tannenbaum in the news conference.
Tannenbaum went up to Tebow before the conference and asked him to win Demps over for Jets. During the Olympics, Demps took part in the 400-meter relay in which team USA got silver medal behind Jamaica.
Demps’ agent Daniel Rose talked to the Associated Press and revealed some major facts about Demps move into the NFL.
Ross said that there are as many as seven or eight teams who have shown interest in Demps.
He carried on and told that Demps previously had a dream to win a medal in the Olympics which he had done. Now, he is aiming to win the Super Bowl, the agent said.
Demps remained undrafted in this year’s draft as he previously announced his plans to participate in the Olympics.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano has also expressed his interest in Demps. Rose said:
"I think within 24 hours, we're going to get it done. He's speed. The NFL is about speed and there's so much you can do with a guy like that if used correctly."
