Quarterback Trent Edwards happy to be with Philadelphia Eagles – NFL News
Throughout his National Football League (NFL) career, Trent Edwards has struggled to retain the status of a starting quarterback and after joining the Philadelphia Eagles in February this year his chances of becoming the starter have faded further.
Eagles already have a great quarterback in Michael Vick with Mike Kafka and Nick Foles expected to be his backup.
In such a case, Edwards’ role is not clear, but it is known that he is not going to get the starting role and might not even get more playing time.
However, Edwards just wants to wait for the right opportunity while learning from Eagles as much as possible.
According to the details present on the team’s official website, Edwards is just happy to be with the team. He said:
"It's a quarterback position here that always seems to succeed, no matter who's out there, whether it's Donovan or Mike Vick or Kevin Kolb. Those guys have flourished in this offence and for me to sit and watch and learn and be in this system, to be around
these coaches, these players, there are weapons everywhere. It's a matter of me doing my job, me improving and hopefully getting to where I need to be."
Edwards started his professional NFL career in 2007 with the Buffalo Bills. In his rookie season he played 10 games while starting nine.
In the next season, he played and started 14 games in which he completed a total of 245 passes of 374 attempts for career-best 2,699 yards while scoring 11 touchdowns and throwing 10 interceptions.
In the 2009 season, he could only start seven games while playing eight and in the 2010 season, he only played and started two games before being released by the Bills.
He was claimed off waivers by the Jacksonville Jaguars with whom Edwards started one game while playing three.
After the 2010 season, he became a free agent and later joined the Oakland Raiders who released him before the start of the 2011 season.
Meanwhile, Edwards has acknowledged that he will have to learn some new strategies with the new coaches. He said:
“I'm just trying to tweak some things and have made some progress, but I have a long way to go."
