Quarterbacks Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger desire more Super Bowl rings - NFL News
Winning their first Super Bowl is a crowning achievement in a player’s National Football League career but getting that second ring becomes an obsession.
Just ask these people.
Quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers), Drew Brees (New Orleans Saints) and Ben Roethlisberger (Pittsburgh Steelers) have each won the Super Bowl, but they are perennially stuck in thoughts of how to get to the next.
"Once you get that taste in your mouth, that's all you want," said Saints' quarterback, Drew Brees.
"Everything else is a disappointment. You think about it all the time, you really do."
This year’s Super Bowl will see the New England Patriots take on the New York Giants in Indianapolis’s Lucas Oil Stadium.
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has won three Super Bowls in his career and will be gunning for his fourth, while Giants' Eli Manning is competing for his second ring.
Brees, Rodgers and Roethlisberger will have to wait another year for their next shot at the coveted title but all three are disappointed of not making this year’s event after their teams put in brilliant performances in the regular season but inexplicably
fell short in the playoffs.
Brees added.
"Look at this year for us, you feel like you have all of the pieces in place. You have a great team. And yet, you just fall a little bit short. And it shows how hard it is, especially once you get into the playoffs, to win and get that ring."
For Roethlisberger the pride of winning his first ring soon turned into an obsession for the next and even with two Championships to his name the 29-year-old feels they are not enough.
"You want to win as many as you can, once you get one, you set a goal early. My thing was, I just wanted to do one more than everyone else. Five was always the magic number. So that's always been the goal."
The Super Bowl however, is not something to get to easily.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has been at the pinnacle of the sport for the entirety of his 14-year career but has just a single Super Bowl Championship to show for it.
His brother could take the lead this year if he successfully navigates the Giants past New England on February 5th.
Even a quarterback of Drew Brees’s stature won his first Super Bowl nine years into his career when the Saints lifted the trophy in 2009.
For now all three of the Pro-Bowl quarterbacks will concentrate on winning the prestigious fixture and then start their quest for the elusive Super Bowl ring once more when the 2012-13 season begins in August, 2012.
