Quarterfinals preview of Bank of Beijing China Open 2011: Part – 2 (second session)
The defending Champion Mark Williams and China Open 2010 runner-up Ding Junhui were assumed to meet in a potential quarter-final clash. However, that did not happen because Williams lost his first-round match to Stephen Lee 4-5 despite his stunning potting skills and outstanding century breaks. On the other hand, the 23-year-old Chinese showed great determination and stormed into the quarter-final stage. The second session matches will take place after 2:30pm GMT at the Beijing University Students Gymnasium.
Stephen Lee vs Ding Junhui
Stephen Lee is the current World number 21 and has clinched four ranking titles including the Welsh Open 2006. He is holding a pretty decent match winning rate of 69.1 percent while his frame wins are 195 out of 333, which has taken his frame winning rate to 58.6 percent. He is the winner of Euro PTC 2010-11 Event 4.
Chinese ace Ding Junhui lost to Mark Williams in the final of China Open 2010. This year again, he is on the road to the title match. He is currently seeded second in the event, and in the World Snooker rankings, he is at number five. The Chinese possesses 24 match wins out of 33; a 72.7 percent match winning rate. His frame winning percentage stands at 57.3. He is the winner of four ranking titles including two UK Championships. Ding has also won the China Open title in 2005 beating Stephen Hendry 9-5.
Ding and Lee faced each other in the first round of Shanghai Masters 2009 for the first time. Ding beat Lee 5-2 in that match. They had their second clash in the third round of PTC Event 5 where Ding won again by 4-3. Ding’s previous record against Stephen Lee makes him the favourite in the quarter-final clash.
Ali Carter vs Mark Selby
World number eight England’s Allister Carter, also known as Ali Carter, has won only two ranking titles since he turned professional in 1996. His match winning rate, 59.4 percent, is quite lower than that of Mark Selby, while his frame wins are 105 out of 193 with a total frame winning ratio of 54.4 percent. The last ranking title he grabbed was Shanghai Masters 2010 defeating Jamie Burnett 10-7 in the final.
Mark Anthony Selby, commonly known as Mark Selby, is the current World Number four. In the PTC order of merit he is ranked at number two. As compared to Carter, Selby’s match winning ability is better. He has won 52 matches out of 69 with the winning percentage of 75.4, while his frame winning ratio is 62.2 percent.
