Quartet of favourites are highlight of A3 race at Belle Vue
The old adage states that good things usually come in threes, but what happens on the odd chance they come in fours? A quartet of co-favourites held the answer to that question during
this afternoon’s 470m races at the Belle Vue Greyhound Stadium in Manchester.
The four co-favourites were the highlight of the A3 race that began the afternoon. Lulus Pet, Rhoden Silver, Trionas Quest, and Westmead Tiger were all staked with 3-1 odds to win the
race, and one of them managed to do so. That honour went to Lulus Pet, who was forced to check first out of trap one. However, she rebounded to lead fourth and ran on to a 28.37 finish.
Upperhill Wild, the 7-2 long shot in this race, led third to fourth, and placed second with a time of 28.43. He missed the win by only ¾ lengths. Behind him was Rhoden Silver, who bumped
first, but still managed a top-three finish in 28.51 for third place. A distance of one length separated him from second place.
Trionas Quest’s journey to first place was cut short after he bumped first and was forced to check third. His finishing time of 28.55 gave him a fourth-place finish that was just a ½ length
out of the top three. Fifth place went to Hard Frost (6-1), who crowded second and fourth to finish 4¼ lengths behind fourth place in 28.89. Bringing up the rear was Westmead Tiger, the last of the co-favourites. He finished the race in 29.03, which placed
him 1¾ lengths behind Hard Frost.
Next on the card was an A8 race that had half the number of favourites as the A3 race that preceded it. Droopys Barney and Baliff Mica were both billed as 5-2 favourites before the race.
However, it was Droopys Barney who swept in and did the famed Droopy's name of greyhound racing proud. He finished the race in 28.59 to lay claim on the top spot.
Finishing three lengths behind him was Sebs Blueboy, the 9-2 long shot. He surprised many with his 28.83 second-place finish, the result of a clear run. Rusty Snail (3-1), a substitute
in trap three for Black Diane, ran on to place third by a shoulder’s length. He matched Sebs Blueboy’s time of 28.83. Missing out on third place by a ½ length was fourth-place finisher Thornfield Zoe (6-1), who crowded the run up and ran on to a 28.87 finish.
The bottom two positions were claimed by co-favourite Baliff Mica (fifth place), and Kersal Bosanova (7-2, last place). Baliff Mica finished the race in 29.01, 1¾ lengths behind Thornfield
Zoe. Kersal Bosanova raced to a 29.59 finish that was 7¼ lengths behind fifth place.
Racing at Belle Vue Greyhound Stadium will resume on Thursday, with an exciting 13-race card lined up. The first race gets under way at 19:25.
