Quartz De Thaix showing great form this season
Having grabbed two straight wins earlier in the season, Quartz De Thaix is all set to shine at the graded level. The 8-year-old is due to participate in Grade 3, Coral Welsh National Handicap Chase, to be hosted by Chepstow later this month.
Owned by Roa Arkle Partnership, the bay gelding did nothing special last season. On his seasonal comeback in 2011, he pulled up after getting weakened in the final stages.
He showed some improvement at Exeter, but could only seize the fourth place. The son of Ragmar pulled up another time. The audience at Haydock saw him collecting plenty of embarrassment. He went on vacations after finishing 13th in the Weatherbys
Bloodstock Insurance Handicap Hurdle at Bangor-on-dee.
The Michel Bourgneuf-bred suffered a few humiliating losses last season, and no one was expecting him to do anything special when he returned last month. Springing up a huge surprise, the big fellow started his campaign with a huge bang.
In the Anne Duchess of Westminster Memorial Handicap Chase, he demonstrated an excellent show in the hands of Aidan Coleman. It was a dominating performance.
The 9-1 chance took lead a couple of fences before the wire, and stayed on well afterwards. With the help of a stunning act, he beat the 3-1 favourite, Cotswold Charmer.
It was not a fluke, as the Michel Bourgneuf-bred perpetuated his marvellous work to take another win last month. The spectators at Haydock saw him creating a huge upset in the Better Prices On Betfair Mobile Handicap
Chase.
Under Liam Treadwell, Venetia Williams’ horse was dominant right from the start. He succeeded in getting a handsome lead well before the wire, and kept running well until the wire. Consequently, he upset the 3-1 favourite, Universal Soldier.
He has developed a good tradition of causing upsets. The bookmakers are unlikely to give him the highest odds in the upcoming Grade 3 meeting, because there are several high-profile runners in the pack.
Quartz De Thaix has no stamina issues and therefore, he is unlikely to show any weakness over Chepstow’s three miles, five furlongs and 110 yards. After two great wins, he looks well-prepared to do business at the top level. So, the punters should keep an
eye on him.
