Quebrada Shiner might relish the wet conditions at Belmont Park’s turf course in the Jazzy Stakes
Trainer Robert Barbara will unleash his 6-year-old mare Quebrada Shiner to run in the $60,000 Jazzy Stakes for fillies and mares for six furlongs over Widener Turf Course at Belmont Park on 14 September, 2011.
The Belmont fall meet will commence with a full week of racing on 14 September, and it will have a nine-race program on the opening day of the meet, with Jazzy Stakes being the feature race out of the nine.
The opening day of the meet was predicted to be hit by rain, after dry conditions prevailed on 12 September, but if the Belmont Park turf course get’s a heavy hit then it would make a certain mare very happy.
The daughter of Indygo Shiner out of La Deneuve by Louis Quatorze, Quebrada Shiner wouldn’t mind a good or yielding turf, because the mare has shown that she can use the conditions to her advantage and actually run well on the soft surface, where usually
other runners would struggle.
James Fraser and Jane Fraser owned mare, Quebrada Shiner, had to endure a ground less than firm over at Belmont Park in her last two starts at the venue.
In those last two starts, Quebrada Shiner, last October, was valiant in defeat when she was beaten by a mere head by Stormy Publisher under wet conditions in the Glowing Honor Stakes.
This year, Quebrada Shiner participated in the Caress over Belmont’s Park turf course over a distance of six furlongs on 9 July, 2011, and defeated Much Rejoicing by 1 ¼ lengths with a winning time of 1 minute and 9.10 seconds.
The Caress was Quebrada Shiner’s first start after a four month layoff, and she showed how versatile and adaptable she is, even in the worst of conditions.
Hence, if it rains, it could heavily go in favour of Quebrada Shiner, who is now placed as the 5 to 2 favourite, with Kid Kate 3 to 5 and Legally Blanca 2 to 1. These odds are currently in progress.
Quebrada Shiner has a single win out of 4 starts this year. She boosted her career wins to 7 out of 17 starts with a lifetime earnings of $235,619.
