Queen Anne Stakes 2011 winner Canford Cliffs will make possible start in Coral Eclipse, Richard Hannon trainer
The British racing season is full swing. More and more horses are being pointed towards one race or another. The same was done by Canford Cliffs’s connections, who intend to point him to the Group 1 Coral Eclipse Stakes, which is set to take place on July
2, 2011 at Sandown Park. The bay colt is trained by Richard Hannon.
Hannon plans to race him in the Qatar Investment & Projects Development Holding Co. (QIPCO) England-1 Sussex Stakes as well where he would have to race against stormy Frankel. Frankel won the Grade 1 St. James Palace on June 14, 2011. He also won the Grade
1 Sussex Stakes at the Glorious Goodwood held on July 28, 2010.
Coral Eclipse is sponsored by the Gala Coral Group and David Stevens of the Coral expressed his excitement over the Canford Cliff’s participation in the race by saying:
“It would be fantastic if Canford Cliffs lined up against So You Think and Workforce at Sandown, but with the Coolmore partners owning a share in Richard Hannon's charge, we feel it is only fair to quote him with a run at this stage”.
Canford Cliffs was foaled in Ireland in February 8, 2007. Canford Cliffs is out of Mrs. Marsh, and recently enjoyed a win at the $406,928 Queen Anne Stakes. Queen Anne Stakes took place on June 14, 2011.
He was ridden by Richard Hughes, who has been his jockey in many races. By getting hold of a win at the Queen Anne Stakes, the four year old managed to score a fifth consecutive win for himself and his connections, also this was his seventh win in ten starts.
His 2011 starts also include him winning the Group I JLT Lockinge Stakes on May 14, 2011. Among his other endeavours is a third position by Canford Cliffs in the 2000 Guineas. He has had Richard Hughes as his jockey in many of his races.
The son of Tagula, even as a two year old, won the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot. Canford Cliffs also has the winning of the St. James Palace Stakes to his claim. He is owned by the Heffer Syndicate and Tabor Smith.
Canford Cliffs is the sort of a horse, who astonishes his owner and trainer, each time he makes his way to the racing field. He has very successfully managed to take over clever opponents such as d**k Turpin and Rip Van Winkle.
Cranford Cliffs comes from a pedigree of Group 1 winners, his mother Mrs Marsh is half sister to minor U.S. stakes winner, Pina Colada. Also the second dam, Drei, is by Lyphard out of the Raise a Cup mare, Triple Tipple. Drei is a two time graded winner
in the U.S.
Richard Hannon was seen raving about Canford Cliffs that “He’s the best horse I’ve ever had”, he may be the best in the field, which is to gather for the Group 1 Coral Eclipse. Among potential rivals the names of last year’s Derby and Arc winner Workforce
and Prince of Wales's runner-up So You Think are notable. So You Think and Work force are both regarded as 13-8 joint favourites. Canford Cliifs himself got wining odds of 2-1.
So You Think is trained by Aidan O'Brien. Anne –Marie O’ Brien, the trainer’s wife was buoyant with the most imposing horse in Europe performance in the previous races, said on Twitter, “looking at the Coral-Eclipse in Sandown as So You Think's next start"
It is hoped that the best horse may win the race.
