Question:

Queen Bee in the office?

I have been in the workplace a long time and encountered many diverse personalities. My most recent "thorn" may not be threatening to my career, but they are demoralizing to the whole office and regularly send me home with a migrane at the end of the day. This person is immature and

unmotivated. To them, the office is a place to go socialize and complete personal business. When they are not on the phone with friends or family they are wandering around the office visiting or outside smoking. Everything I have read says, "Act professionally, do your work and ignore them" but that is difficult when this person decides to 'get in your face'. I do not supervise this person but am a senior in service and position with the company. And yes, I have spoken to their supervisor. He stared at me with toad eyes and never spoke in return. Even his boss (who is also mine) turns a blind eye to the antics of this individual who never works a 40 hour week. How can I get management to act?

  1. You need to take this above your boss. If your boss isn't listening then find out who is above him and make a complaint. Or it's time to stand up and say something to your boss and make sure he follows through with your complaint.

Either way if it continue its going to end two ways. You leaving your job or you punching this guys lights out.

Does anyone else have problems with this person in the office? Maybe if you all confronted the boss as a group it might make him do something about it.

  2. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do.  These days, management is very hands off, they will not do anything unless it creates a problem for the whole office/company.  I learned that they will ignore the complaints of one or two people.

They seem to like the social people more than the hard workers.  The person is either kissing up or they are afraid of the person or both.

This happened to me in my last job and I hated it, it even got to a point where they let this one creep harass and stalk me.  They pretended that they never witnessed him doing any of it and I had no physical evidence so it was my word against his.  I finally had enough and left.

  3. Hmmm....

You say you work in an office?

Do you have security camera's everywhere? If not, the next time she goes "visiting", sneak into her office and steal a whole bunch of important papers. Then shred them and throw them away.

There has to be some standard to work she's meeting to keep working there. If you s***w her up, maybe management will finally take notice.

Oh, but what I just said is irrational and immature. Don't listen to me. ^_^

  4. Let this go! His world should not effect who and what you are. Do your job, and that will pay off later. Or find a new job. You will never change anyone or an entire company!

  5. Don't let it get to you. You have been there longer, and will continue to be there longer than this person. Anything you do ,will seem small and petty to your supervisors. Anything you do against this person I mean. They will only think one thing, that you are jealous, or feel this person is a threat to your job. Ignore it. Nothing you can do that wouldn't cause more problems. I    know what you are going through,I have been there. Usually you outlast these kind of people. They don't stick around for very long. Bite your tongue, just don't bite it off. She will eventually go away. Byee

  6. You've already tried to bring it to management's attention and it didn't do any good.

I would just ignore this person and focus on your work.

If this person comes around you to talk, just say:  I'm sorry, I'm very busy WORKING and need to get this done now.
