  1. Queen Street West is fashion, restaurants, and clubs.  A seedier sort of life lives there - it is a really old part of town, but cheap to live, I think.  Lots of night life and the main part of Queen West (Yonge St. to Bathurst) is really close to everything else in downtown Toronto.  I personally wouldn't want to live there, but if I were in my early twenties it would probably be the place to be.

  2. It depends on whether you mean the street Queen St W or the area dubbed "Queen Street West".

The area is starts at about University on the east side, and extends to about Spadina (although you could argue it goes as far west as Bathurst). It's ultra-trendy, and is THE destination for non-high-end clothing (e.g., The Gap, and TONS of vintage stores; basically, if you're not looking for Prada, Holt Renfrew, etc.--that'd be Bloor West between Avenue and Yonge--it's where you want to be). It's often compared to SoHo in NYC. If you like unique and ultra-hip fashion, indie restaurants and cafes, and MUSIC, it's awesome.

For living...well, it depends on your style. It is LOUD. Always. Especially if you go anywhere near John St, since MuchMusic--our equivalent of MTV, if you don't know that--is there. For that exact reason, it gets closed off fairly often due to visits from uber-popular musicians and shows like the MuchMusic video awards. I also believe there's a high crime rate, but I'm not 100% sure.

Queen St. W. starts at Yonge St on the east end (same as the above), extending out to Roncesvalles, which is in Swansea/High Park...west end Toronto. Most of this street is TERRIFYING. One of the highest crime rates in the city. Run down, shabby, frightening. At the very very west end, it gets a bit better again. It's fantastic for TTC (transit) access.

  3. From 300 blk to 900 blk is a good area.  Anywhere beyond that and you are in Parkdale and druggies and hookers
