Question:

Queen bed for a toddler?

In the next few months we are going to begin to transition our 2 year old from a crib to a bigger bed. We have a queen mattress that is not being used and if we don’t use it we will have to donate it because we don’t have the room to store it for years. I don’t want to have to get rid of it because it is a perfectly good mattress but would a queen mattress be entirely too big to transition a toddler to? My gut tells me to stick to a twin bed but has anyone else used a queen bed for a toddler?

  1. A queen bed is fine.  We didn't have an extra bed so we just bought a twin for our 14 month old instead of a toddler bed.  I figured he'd be fine with it since he could climb in and out of our queen bed.

My sister in law just used a queen bed because it was their spare bed and didn't want to have to buy a new one.  Her son does fine in it.

    You should be perfectly fine!

  2. My son sleeps in a full side bed since he turned 2, & my friend´s son in a queen mattress. The good thing is when they are sick or don´t want to sleep alone, we can get into their bed without any problem & sleep fine all nigth... Other good thing is that they don´t try to sleep in their parents´ bed... The only problem my friend has with her son´s queen bed is she can´t find economic or mayor variaties of children bed sheets & cover, but she solves it by buying solid color sheets & cover, & then, she pastes, glues, etc the caracter of her son´s choice on the bed´s fabrics....

  3. I know several people that have their toddler in a queen.  I don't think it really matters.  If i didn't have a queen or a twin...i would buy a twin over a queen, but since you have the queen i don't see the big deal.  If you have the room of course

  4. it doesn't really matter...

  5. If you do I would not put it on a bed frame because of the height.  you also should be aware that queen size beds do not have kid's print sheets as readily available (if at all) so if you want fun kid prints for sheets and linens you could run into a problem finding those.

Personally I'd go with a twin bed which is easier and less frightening to the kid because of the size.  Linens are easier to find and even if you did store the mattress its not going to be one you'd want to use later after storing it anyway since it will smell like the place you store it and can weaken and age just by storing.

  6. I don't see the difference between the two of them except for size obviously.

I guess some people just use twin because it give more room in the room for play and such.

I say go for it if you have the room for it.  Just make sure you don't push it up against a wall where the baby is sleeping just in case they slide down the side.  I know it is obvious but I just need to say it :)

  7. it's a good idea since you don't have to buy a new one, but i guess make sure to put down a plastic cover as that's more space for accidents.  and don't let him play on the bed even though it's a lot of space, as he'll confuse the bed with both playtime and sleep therefore it will make it hard for him to go to sleep.

  8. Your child is 2, so let your child choose, choosing may help your child to get exited about his new sleeping arrangement. if you decide its too big you can always change to the other bed. Have your child pick out new sheets for his bed that will help to.

  9. heres what i did from teh crib

i put the queen mattress on the floor of the room and he and i fell asleep on it - then i crept out- no falling out of bed!

the thing about puttign a kid in a queen is that it cant be too high off the ground

we then put my kid in a captain bed with lots of pillow on one side-

i sleep in there - room for two - for about 10 min then he's asleep  - just just make sure that  he doesnt fall out.

  10. I would use the twin mattress.
