  1. Not much is known about the woman who's name translates to "the beautiful one who has come." She was the wife of the Pharaoh Akhenaten, the man who changed Egypt to the one god,Aten, during the Bronze Age,Egypt's 18th Dynasty. She was the mother of six daughters, including Ankhesenamen, wife of Tutankhamun, the son or brother of Akhenaten. Nefertiti was seen as an equal to her husband in many ways. No one knows how she died,or where she was buried;she just disappeared,a possible victim of foul play(perhaps the angry priests of Amun who lost power when Akhenaten went monotheistic).Try looking up The Discovery Channel's site for more info.

A good book to try is Nefertiti by Joyce Tyldesley, and The Discovery Channel's Nefertiti:Ressurected gices some insight into her world, but unfortunately, the archaeologist's hopes that her body was found remains inconclusive, because DNA testing shows the mummy to be male, not female...I also suggest looking up http://guardians.net/hawass which is the eminent Egyptian archaelogist's and Head of Antiquities Dr. Zawi Hawass' website.

  2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nefertiti

This is a wikipedia entry on Nefertiti.

Also, any sites in relation to Akhenaten (Nefertiti's husband and the Heretic King) would have more or less detailed information on the woman's life.

  4. Nefertiti (c. 1370 BC - c. 1330 BC) was the Great Royal Wife (or chief consort/wife) of the Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaten. She was the mother-in-law and probable stepmother of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun. Nefertiti may have also ruled as pharaoh in her own right under the name Neferneferuaten briefly after her husband's death and before the accession of Tutankhamun. Her name roughly translates to "the beautiful (or perfect) woman has come". She also shares her name with a type of elongated gold bead, called nefer, that she was often portrayed as wearing. She was made famous by her bust, now in Berlin's Altes Museum. The bust is one of the most copied works of ancient Egypt. It was attributed to the sculptor Thutmose, and was found in his workshop. The bust itself is notable for exemplifying the understanding Ancient Egyptians had regarding realistic facial proportions.

She had many titles; at Karnak there are inscriptions that read Heiress, Great of Favours, Possessed of Charm, Exuding Happiness, Mistress of Sweetness, beloved one, soothing the king's heart in his house, soft-spoken in all, Mistress of Upper and Lower Egypt, Great King's Wife, whom he loves, Lady of the Two Lands, Nefertiti.

Little is known about the origins of Nefertiti but it seems unlikely that she was of royal blood. Her father was possibly a high official of Amenhotep III and Akhenaten called Ay, who went on to become Pharaoh after Tutankhamun. Essentially nothing is known about Nefertiti before she became co-regent of Egypt with her husband, Pharaoh Akhenaten, who ruled from 1352 B.C. to 1336 B.C.

Akhenaten and Nefertiti had six daughters, although the succession after his death is uncertain as there is no record of a male heir. It is possible that Akhenaten's successors Smenkhkare and Tutankhaten were his children by another royal wife called Kiya who became his principle queen for a short while after year 12 of his reign.

Around Year 14 of Akhenaten's reign (1336 BC), Nefertiti herself vanishes from the historical record, and there is no word of her after that date. Theories include a sudden death by a plague that was sweeping through the city or a natural death. A previous theory that she fell into disgrace is now discredited since the deliberate erasures of the monuments belonging to a queen of Akhenaten has now been shown to refer to Kiya instead. Regardless, the verifiable knowledge of this episode has been completely lost to history.
