Question:

Queen of Hearts Nursery Rhyme?

I do a nursery rhyme a week and I would like fresh ideas of what I could do with the following rhyme.

The Queen of Hearts

The Queen of Hearts made some tarts

All on a summer's day

The Knave of Hearts stole the tarts

And quickly ran away.

Any lesson or activity ideas that directly correlates to this rhyme. (Besides making tarts or heart cookies :-) That is the most popular response I got when I searched online.) Thanks!

  1. This is from Alice in Wonderland by Carroll Lewis, not really a nursery rhyme - but I like it too.

I believe it actually goes :

    The Queen of Hearts she made some tarts all on a summer's day;

The Knave of Hearts he stole the tarts and took them clean away.

The King of Hearts called for the tarts and beat the Knave full sore

The Knave of Hearts brought back the tarts and

    vowed he'd steal no more.

I keep thinking of things to do however, I'm not sure of the age of your students.  I don't know if they are old enough to have a pretend trial.  I thought that maybe you could cut heart shapes out of red paper, call them tarts, and then I lose it.  I wouldn't want some small child hurt by the others if the catch the Knave stealing.  I wouldn't want the Knave beaten.

    Oh well, good luck

  2. Check the library or google it. I know it was in one of my children's nursery rhyme books. They now have that book at their own home.

  3. ....the Knave got from the store.

....and said he'd eat no more!

You could have the children do a drawing of the rhyme or have them interpret the meaning of certain words.

I hope this helps. Good luck!
