  1. Yes, it's a family tradition, when we were kids Mum would sit us infront of the TV every Xmas afternoon to watch the Queen.  Now I live in Oz I watch it on Sky news.

  2. Technically, the Queen's Speech is the one she delivers opening Parliament. At the holidays she delivers her Christmas Message.

We always watch it before sitting down to our Christmas dinner. And when I was young my father insisted we stand to attention while the Royal Anthem was played. Reminds me of that scene in 84 Charring Cross Road. Sad, but true.

Frankly, I think the Queen messages have been getting more interesting and show a great grasp of contemporary life and issues.

  3. No

  4. Of course I do watch the Queen's Christmas message with the whole family, sometimes with friends, and millions turn on their TV set and their radio to watch and listen to the Queen's speech.

The 2006 BBC1 broadcast attracted 5.1 million viewers, whilst the BBC2 repeat was watched by 900,000. Meanwhile, ITV1 (whose news provider ITN produced this year's speech) saw 1.9 million people tune in to hear the monarch speak in the year of her 80th birthday about the need to promote greater communication between young and old throughout society.

These figures don't include the world wide audience in the Commonwealth countries. In Canada, New Zealand and Australia, where the Queen is head of state, millions watch the programme. And meanwhile the message is down-loadable as iPod as well. Thousands have downloaded Her Majesty's inspiring message.
