Queensland Reds coach Ewen McKenzie flattered with his team’s effort against Stormers
Ewen McKenzie, the Queensland Reds coach has been flattered with his side’s effort against the previous unbeaten Stormers in a Super Rugby clash.
Reds defeated the Stormers by 19-6 on the weekend. This was the fifth consecutive victory for them in the ongoing Super Rugby season. The victory has put the Reds on top of their other home sides and overall they are standing second on the point’s tables.
Earlier on, the Stormers were very consistent with their performance and played six flawless rounds in Super Rugby. The Reds managed to end up their superiority with a tremendous showpiece in Cape Town on Saturday.
Super Rugby is having successful 15th season as SANZAR made few changes in its format early this year. (SANZAR) South Africa, New Zealand and Australia rugby agreed to reduce across the border matches and allowed the teams to play 75% of their matches against
their home sides.
Furthermore, it allowed five teams from each SANZAR member to participate in the championship. After the conclusion of seven rounds Super Rugby, the Crusaders are leading the point’s tables with better point average followed by Reds and Stormers who are
placed on 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
The victory has really boosted the confidence of Reds and their coach has been flattered with his boys’ performance. Talking to the reporters on today morning the coach said that it was an unbelievable win for him.
He further said that, “I was very proud; it was one of our best wins since I've been around. Tactically, we won the battle and physically we won it too, we did a great job.”
The coach argued that, “In the address before the game, I likened it to a test match and we were going out to play a test match and every little thing was going to matter, and they put us under pressure in the set-piece and things like that, but we were
able to put them under more pressure.”
The eighth round of the championship would begin April 15, 2011 with Crusaders and Chiefs clash.
