Queensland Reds on high alert as Sonny Bill Williams returns to Crusaders – Super Rugby update
Sonny Bill Williams is making a comeback into his Crusaders side after healing from a knee injury and the Reds have taken notice. The Table toppers are making some serious plans to halt Williams in their forthcoming Super Rugby match on May 29th.
The Reds are quite aware of his skilss but they are determined to convert his strengths into weaknesses.
The Reds coach, Ewen Mckenzie, told the media this morning that Sonny Bill Williams, who made his Super Rugby debut this year, has emerged as the mainstream players of Crusaders. Williams scored his first try in his very first match of his career and thus
alarmed other competing sides.
The Queensland Reds are occupying the top seed on the point’s tables with maximum victories in the matches played so far. Reds have grabbed 10 wins after twelve outgoings followed by Blues, Stormers and Crusaders with nine each.
The Crusaders will go in the match against the Reds with their full strength with the return of Williams, as Dan Carter and skipper Richie McCaw are also in good form.
Talking about Williams, Reds coach, McKenzie, told the media that they kept a vigilant eye on him. He said, “He's got a good off-loading game but those offloads don't always come off. There is a bunch of turnovers that come with it. Go through the stats.
Some games he was effective and others he wasn't. He is an excellent athlete, got good skills - they have adapted their game around it and profited from that.”
Meanwhile, McKenzie also said that his team will not be occupied by just a single player in the game but would try to check out the other players as well. He added, “We will be coming up with a strategy that is right for us - not spend all our time on one
player. That tends to happen when there is a focus but they have lots of good players - there are All Blacks everywhere.”
The Queensland Reds will take on the Crusaders on May 29th, in Suncorp Stadium, in Brisbane.
