Queensland Reds to miss Digby Ioane, Ben Daley in next clash of Super Rugby due to injuries
Queensland Reds would miss their two key players in the next match of Super Rugby competition on Saturday due to respective injuries.
Digby Ioane was struck by nose injury whereas Ben Daley had a fracture in his leg during last match of Super Rugby against the Waratahs on April 23, 2011.
Although the injuries were not of severe nature but still the Reds have to manage the substitutes for upcoming competition against the Hurricanes. The Reds have already sidelined Rod Davies and James Slipper because of knee and collarbone injuries. Davies’
knee injury has cost him for eight weeks absence from the current Super Rugby championship.
Their coach Ewen McKenzie is expected to include new faces in his squad to replace growing injures list. Despite brilliant display of consistent outputs in the continuing championship the Reds would be tested against the Hurricanes.
However, their coach McKenzie was confident that enlarging injuries were not cause of worry for him as he has got depth in his squad. His team has produced excellent results in the current season of Super Rugby. They have grabbed seven consecutive victories
in the championship and they have been placed on top of point’s tables at the moment.
The Reds have lost just one match after nine outgoings and they are quite confident to make their place in to the semi finals. The Reds claimed their first victory after seven years against the Waratahs, on last Saturday.
Reds coach McKenzie guided the reporters that only serious injury was that of Davies and rest of them are were expected to join the unit soon. He said three of the injured players would be in action by the end of next week.
He told the reporters that, “He (Davies) is having surgery today on a ligament injury so he will be out for eight weeks. The others we will get them back short term. It just means we will dig into our depth and give guys a go - that's just the way it works.”
Whereas talking about other injured players he informed that, “Daley has had an operation on his nose and as much as he would like to play our medical advice is to not play this weekend and let it settle. And Slipper won't be right this week, he is coming
along well but not good enough.”
The Reds coach argued that injuries were always an irritating situation for any side but it also provides a chance to introduce new talent. He asserted that they would go with some fresh faces to contest the Hurricanes in Wellington on April 29, 2011.
