Queensland University of Technology wins Men’s 4*100m freestyle gold: Australian University Games
Queensland University of Technology won the title of Men’s 4*100m freestyle relay on the primary day of the 2011 Australian University Games. The session completed on Tuesday, September 27, at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, Queensland.
The relay squad of QLD University occupied the title of the event by submitting a wonderful time of 3 minutes and 50.88 seconds. The squad easily overwhelmed the previous Games Record of 3 minutes and 57.86 seconds, set by QLD squad in 2009.
Nevertheless, the gold medallists remained 10.03 seconds ahead of their subsequent competitors, University of NSW, who clocked a time of 4 minutes and 00.91 seconds for silver medal. Similarly, the silver medallists were nearly one second away from their
following team, Monash University, who submitted a time of 4 minutes and 01.87 seconds for bronze medal.
The winning squad included Andrew Gillespie, Christian Sprenger, Grant Irvine and Kyle Richardson, who swam the legs of back-stroke, breast-stroke, butterfly and freestyle, respectively.
Fourth spot of the event was secured by Macquarie University, which remained nearly five seconds slower than their former finishers and touched the finishing wall in 4 minutes and 06.75 seconds. Relay team of Macquarie was trailed by University of Sydney,
which stayed 3.13 seconds slower than their preceding finishers and reported a fifth fastest time of 4 minutes and 09.88 seconds.
In the meantime, relay team of University of Melbourne emerged on the finishing wall for the sixth fastest spot of the swim, as they were almost four seconds behind Sydney and hit the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 13.71 seconds. Next was Australian
National University, which remained significantly away from their foregoing finishers, Australian University and posted a time of 4 minutes and 40.33 seconds to obtain seventh position in the relay event.
Team-members of QLD University of Technology expressed happiness over their spectacular effort in the freestyle relay discipline. Furthermore, the winners collected their accolades after the completion of the championship, while the event will continue for
two more days to conclude all scheduled swimming events.
