Queensland and Western Australia win Day 3 games in U-21 Men’s Australian Hockey Championship
Queensland and Western Australia outplayed Victoria and Tasmania respectively, by 6-0 and 3-1 in day three games of the U-21 Men’s Australian Hockey Championship. The matches were played at the Perth Hockey Stadium, Australia.
In the first game, Victoria failed to break the winning-streak of Queensland and lost the game by six goals. Daniel Matheisen and Daniel Beale scored one goal each in the 8th and 10th minutes to put Queensland ahead on the score-board.
The Queensland team made a number of penetrations against the Victorian side and pushed them completely on defence. But they showed impressive defence on the field after conceding a couple of goals, particularly Luke Young. His ability to snatch the ball
with dribbling techniques was outstanding in the game, but it could not serve them much.
In the 21st minute of game, Mathew Ghodes received a pass from Jacob Webber and to score a goal. It was the final score from Queensland as well as Victoria in the first thirty-five minute action.
The second half of play also belonged to Queensland which obtained three goals while holding Victorians scoreless. With two minutes into the game, Lewis Short scored a goal and augmented the lead up to four goals. In the later time, Jacob Webber added a
couple of goals in the 56th and 67th minutes and established their dominance into the game. As the time completed, Queensland won the game at 6-0.
In the second game of the day, Western Australia (WA) defeated Tasmania by two goals, 3-1 and improved its position at the point-chart.
Tasmania's Jeremy Edwards succeeded to score the first goal of the game in the 10th minute of match. After playing defensive game in the early period, the WA strikers cranked up their offence and took the game into their favour. Neil Rose and
Aran Zalewski scored one goal apiece in the 27th and 28th minutes and established their first lead of the match. The former scored the goal from penalty-corner conversion, while the latter did it from the field effort.
Unluckily, the players from Tasmania failed to show brilliant performance in the second half and conceded one more goal. In the 58th minute of the match, Brodie Sarr converted a short-corner and expanded the WA lead up to two goals, 3-1. The score
remained same in the left-over period and Western Australia won the game.
