Queensland clobbers ACT by 6-1 U-21 National Hockey Championship
Jacob Webber, the veteran youngster of Queensland, lit the lamp three times and had an assist, as the Queensland hockey team marked a commanding 6-3 win over ACT in the Day IV match of the U-21 Australian National Hockey Championship that took place
at the Perth Hockey Stadium on July 08, 2011.
It was a disappointing show from the ACT, which was beaten for the fourth time in the Championship. They failed to mark a single victory out of four games. On the other side, the results led many to label Queensland as probable challengers for finals
of the National Championship.
The fixture between ACT and Queensland was quite a single-handed competition, where the latter dominated the field with the ball possession throughout the two halves. The ACT could only find Queensland only once in the 70 minutes, while the Queensland
marked six goals in the given time.
The Queensland unfolded the match with a fast and furious style and accomplished uninterrupted attacks against ACT. Though the ACT strikers made some efforts in the opening minutes, they failed to convert them into successful goals. Dom Mcfarlane of
ACT also marked a short-corner, but it was blocked from the either side.
When the players from Queensland awakened, they ruined the defence line of ACT within minutes. They stormed and obtained three goals in a short-span of time. Jacob Webber received a pass from Daniel Beale at the left flank and unleashed a powerful
shot at the goal in the 9th minute of the match.
The maiden goal served much to the Queensland which obtained another couple of goals in the next few minutes. Justin Douglas took the ball at the top in the defensive circle of ACT and volleyed a low-flying shot into the goal in the 13thminute.
His team-mate, Kane Posselt, added a goal from the field in the 14thminute and put Queensland ahead on the scoreboard.
In the waning minutes of the match, the ACT tightened their defence and worked-out on attack. But their efforts ended with only for a single field goal. Arin Doig was the ACT player, who notched the solitary goal and reduced the lead down to a single
goal.
The second part of the game also belonged to Queensland which obtained another three goals in the thirty-five minutes of play. With two minutes into the period, the Webber scored off another short corner to increase pressure on ACT. Daniel Beale added
a goal from the field in the 43rd minute of the match while Webber converted one short corner in the 67th and stretched the Queensland’s advantage up to five goals, 6-1. It was the score that remained until the
final whistle and Queensland won the fourth consecutive game in the Championship.
