Queensland nominates three contenders for Greyhound of the Year title
The Queensland Racing Commission has announced three nominees including Bogie King, Dashing Corsair and He Knows Uno for 2011 Greyhound of the Year title that will be awarded at the RQs Greyhound Awards night that is scheduled to be held on 18 February,
2012, in Sofitel Brisbane.
The three finalists have been shortlisted on the basis of their impressive and fabulous performances during the year 2011, which is overall regarded as a successful year for the Queensland dogs which produces some outstanding results both at home and
abroad.
With the dawn of the New Year, a committee was set up to finalise the names of three best Greyhounds. The judges, after keen deliberations, came up with the above-mentioned candidates yesterday.
Bogie King thrived well throughout the year, winning the Group 1 National Derby and bagging the Group 2 Queensland Derby. Moreover, he stood in the Group 1 Topgun. The trainer, Ryan Ayre, is jubilant on his dog’s nomination for the ace title, hoping
that he will win.
Dashing Corsair, also achieved some tremendous successes during the last year, winning the Group 1 National Distance Championship.
He was the first greyhound to win both the National Sprint and the Distance titles. Apart from this, he won Group 3 Superstayers and Group 3 Big Dog Cup. He was also placed in the Group 2 Wentworth Park Gold Cup and the Group 1 Association Cup. The
trainer of this dog, Dwyer Lennon, is satisfied with his dog’s laurels.
He Knows Uno’s victory ratio had been somewhat lower than those of the two others, but still it is a potential contender for the top award. During 2011, Uno won Group 3 Rover Mowers Cup and Group 3 Flying Amy Classic. It was also placed in Group 2
Bulli Gold Cup, Group 1 Winter Cup and Group 1 Golden Easter Egg.
These three dogs will surely be the favourites for the gamblers during the calendar year, and the winner is likely to draw the highest bankroll.
The trainers of the trio are eagerly waiting for February 18 to get the reward for their efforts. According to the expert opinion, Dashing Corsair has more chances to earn the title.
