Queensland v Victoria: Sheffield Shield – Summary of first three days
Queensland were in a very good position against Victoria in a match of the Sheffield Shield at the Brisbane Cricket Ground, Brisbane in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 on Thursday, October 13, 2011.
At close of play on day three, the hosts had gained an overall lead of 220 runs with six wickets remaining.
Earlier, Victoria’s skipper Andrew McDonald had opted to field after winning the toss. He expected some pace and bounce in the first couple of sessions of the day, but the decision did not turn out to be a very good on in the end.

Broad was the first man to be dismissed in the day. The 29-year-old batsman scored 32 runs off 86 balls with the help of five boundaries in a 64-run opening stand with Robinson.

The solid right-handed opener ended up with 78 runs off 130 deliveries. He looked the most impressive batsmen of the day and struck 13 boundaries in his outing.
Despite losing the openers, the home team was in a very good position. However, a few wickets fell in a short span, which shifted the momentum towards the opposition.
Townsend looked well set at the crease, but failed to capitalise on the start he got. He contributed 22 runs to the total from 65 balls and struck a couple of boundaries.
Middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joe-Burns-c67125 was the next one to go, as he also failed to make most of the start to his innings. He managed 26 runs off 44 deliveries with the help of a couple of fours and the hosts were 185 for five at that stage of the innings.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 skipper Chris Hartley steadied the ship for the team with a 56-run partnership for the sixth wicket.
The former got out after an impressive knock of 49 runs with the help of seven fours and one six.
Wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Cutting-c1132 scored 41 runs each towards the end of the innings, guiding the team to a first innings total of 355 runs.
Victoria’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Pattinson-c1321 was the pick of the bowlers, picking up three wickets in the innings.
In reply, Victoria were all out for 298 runs in their first innings. The team got off to a terrific start, but was unable to capitalise.
Top-order players http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Handscomb-c81662 scored 72 and 71 in their respective outings, but the rest of the batting was below par.

Queensland’s Cutting helped his side gain a useful first innings lead of 57 runs, taking four wickets.
The hosts’ middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Peter-Forrest-c2176 stretched the lead to 220 with an impressive knock of 75 not-out. He will resume batting on day four with the team poised nicely at 163/4.
Victoria’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Glenn-Maxwell-c60189 picked up two wickets in the innings before the third day’s play was called off.
