Quest For Peace to redeem the Ascot disaster in the Coutts Glorious Stakes
The Group 3 Coutts Glorious Stakes has pulled together seven four-year and above runners for the mile and four furlong race at Goodwood on Friday, 3rd August. Not all the contestants have raced in graded company before and thus will be racing
their debut at the defined level. The winner will get awarded with the prize money of £34,026.
Galileo’s four-year-old, Quest For Peace, has been racing in graded company since the last five outings out of which three fall on the 2012 calendar. The Irish bay colt has failed to post success ever since he strode into the new season, but his rankings
in the first two attempts of the season have not been disappointing.
The Luca Cumani trained cracked into the new season on 5th May, 2012 at Newmarket in the Group 2 Qatar Bloodstock Jockey Club Stakes over a mile and four furlongs.
The four-year-old settled as the runner-up after missing the race by 4 ½ lengths to the winner, Al Kazeem. The ride of Kieren Fallon led for the opening furlong, kept a strong hold and traced the leader. He was ridden to lead over two furlong out and with
the last furlong approaching, it became apparent that his speed did not match the pace of the winner.
Dunaden filled in the third spot behind the winner.
The next stop for the four-year-old out of mare, Play Misty For Me, was in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Coronation Cup (Sponsored By Investec) on 2nd June, 2012 at the Epsom race course over a mile and four furlongs.
This time Quest For Peace fell back on the fourth position in the field of six which was taken over by the favourite entry, St Nicholas Abbey who won by the margin of 4 ½ lengths.
Red Cadeaux followed right behind and Masked Marvel joined in third.
The 11 to 2 shot for the race ended tenth in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes on 23rd June, 2012 at the Royal Ascot over a mile and four furlongs. This turned out to be the first time that the Macquarie bred suffered such a miserable loss.
The mount for Kieren Fallon can make the ends meet today by keeping the Ascot disaster in the background.
