I had root planning done on the right said of my mouth today (top and bottom). My insurance cover 85% and before I made these appointments my dentist's assistant told me it would be $60 for the day. And when I came back for the other side of my mouth it would be $60 for that too. I was fine with that. So I went in and had my the root planning done and she charged me $120 for the day. She said its a $60 charge for each the top and bottom of the rigth side of my mouth. So my question is for dentist or for others who have had this done. Is there usually a charge the top and bottom on both sides of the mouth for root planning? So in total I would get charge $60 four times? Or is this wrong?

  1. The above answer is correct.

I had to pay $50 per quads for mines.

  2. The office that I work at charges by the quadrant, so yes, 4 x $60. But regardless, they should have explained that to you beforehand. When it's that much money out of pocket they need to make sure you're informed and not wondering if you got cheated or not. Sorry.

  3. I work in the dental field.  Yes it's normal to be charged $60 x4.  They screwed up in communicating it to you.  If they s***w up communicating again you should switch to another office.
