Question,it is about fruits and ricebins.?

Farmers' who gather chico,mango,etc..that are not yet fully ripe bury them in a rice bin.Why do they do this?pls.Try to explain how it works.:) thnks

  1. Fruit ripening on the tree includes changes in color, pH, and firmness, plus sugar & ethanol content in the flesh increases. All these changes signal maturity or that the fruit is becoming easily digestible and are controlled by the plant hormone ethylene.

    The volatile gas ethylene regulates how the fruit ripens on the tree. Once the ethylene begins to be made by the fruit it is committed to ripening. If the fruit is picked once the ripening process has begun it can be encouraged to continue by putting the fruit into a paper bag or a rice bin that will not make the fruit rot by allowing moisture to collect but will retain the ethylene released by the fruit. The ethylene trapped in the rice will encourage the changes that make fruit soft, sweet, and colorful.


  2. to ripen it faster. but the quality of fruits that ripened on its own tree are more sweeter and taste more good.
