  1. I have lived in Spain many years, and all I can say is this:

You will not get any benefits here if you cannot find work!

You will not get health care here if you don't have private cover or you work!

Your kids (if applicable) will have to pay to go to school.

So asking how much money you need to come and live here is not the question, the question is, can you afford to live here long term if you do not work? It is now very difficult to get a decent job in Spain, regardless of some people saying it is easy. Well, it is easier if you are young, but if you are over 40 you will find it hard to get work, people are only interested in employing the young (they generally put up with bad conditions of employment simply because of inexperience and don't normally have a household to run)

The cost of living here in Spain is cheaper than the UK, but if you are unfortunate to fall on hard times there is no welfare state.

You can emigrate to Spain with as little as you like to have in the bank, in fact I came here with only 2000 pounds in 1991, but it took me 8 months to find a job and then it was for a pittance. But I am still here, have my own business and would not return to the UK. Please don't think I am trying to discourage you, but these are the real facts, yes, we have all the sun and sangria that you want, but only if you can support yourself in the long term.
