Question:

Question About A Thistle Plant

I dug up a plant that I now know is Thistle and transplanted it in a pot back in the late spring. It has a pretty purple bloom, now. Anyway, I want to know if this is a plant that will come up every year on its own? Also, will it spread or remain the one plant?

  1. It is a perennial and will spread like mad if it is let go to seed.  Lots of places are trying hard to eradicate thistles.

  2. your thistle is a seed plant, but should come back if you keep the soil somewhat moist.  When your thistle goes to seed, put a plastic bag over it and cut the bloom.  Toss the bag in the trash cuz thistles spread and although they look nice here and there, if they take over your yard you will not like them so much.
