Is It Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware? It Safe To Download?

Chiefly, Avast Free is an antivirus as well as an anti-spyware.

But being focussed on viruses, its database doesn't include all the spywares out there in the cyber world. You'll need a separate anti-spyware for that purpose.

The good thing about Avast is that it is completely free, has an easy user interface and is good for basic security.

What I don't like about Avast is that it lacks background scanning, is a little heavier on the system, and lacks a firewall and other important security features.

Yes its a very good anti-virus---please download it from its own web site www.avast.com and get your registration in your e mail address that you have to provide them----another safe download site is www.download.com where you can read the user reviews about it also.

Avast is a very effective and free anti-virus program because it can do

a boot time scan in safe mode and it will remove the entire virus on your PC.

Even those viruses that hide inside the system restore folder.

Windows utilize a restore utility that backs up selected files

automatically to the System volume information /System Restore folder.

This means that an infected file could be stored there as a backup file,

and most anti-virus programs will be unable to delete these files. You

must disable the System Restore Utility to remove the infected files

from the folder if you use another brand of anti-virus. However, you do

not need to do so if you use Avast to do a boot up scan in safe mode.

Yup, it is both. And if you get it from download.com it is safe.

That is all I use and it has never let me down =)
