Ok so I have a some good graphic novels. I have The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: Year One, The Long Halloween, and Superman For All Seasons and I really want to get into more comics after I read those amazing books.

But after walking into a comic book shop, I realized that I wouldn't know where else to start. I was lost in the thousands of choices. Can you recommend any essential must-reads to me?

  1. Maus by Art Spiegelman , V for Vendetta and The Watchmen which are both by Alan Moore .

    :0)

  2. Try out y! the last man, Bones, League of extraordinary gentlemen: black dossier, and definately pick up Watchmen (it was the only graphic novel to get on Time Magazine's 2005 list of "the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present.)

V for Vendetta is a great graphic novel but watching the movie first really skewed my opinion of it. Try it out for yourself and keep an open mind to the wider story.

Oo, Sandman as well (all of Neil Gaimans works are excellent)

And to follow the superman line check out Infinite Crisis,

  3. Well Im not sure in the DC category and that seems to mostly be your preference.

However in the Marvel universe I would recommend in this order...

    Secret Wars

    Infinity Gauntlet

Secret War (different from secret wars)

    House of M

    The Messiah Complex

    Civil War

    Fallen Son

    Planet Hulk

    World War Hulk

Captain America (From the Death of Captain America up)

    Iron man Director of S.H.I.E.L.D

    Spider-man Back in Black

    Spider-man Brand New Day

Then start in the current issue at hand: Secret invasion

    I also recommend anything with

    The Avengers

    Hulk

    Thor

    Captain America

    Iron-man

    X Men

    Wolverine Origins

    or Spiderman

Hope this helped in some way

    V for Vendetta

    The Watchmen

The Authority "Transfer of Power" trade paperback

    Planetary trade paperback 1, 2, & 3

    League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

    Stormwatch: Team Achilles

    Transmetropolitan
