  1. College prep classes hold the same GPA weight as regular classes.  Therefore, if you are looking to have a GPA higher than 4.0, then you should take the honor courses.

Not all schools are the same, so you might want to check this information I'm giving you, but when I was in high school, if you took English honors for example, and made a B...it carried the same GPA weight has an A in a regular class because honor courses are harder.

This means if you take 5 honor courses that you make A's in, then you will have a GPA that is well above a 4.0.  Of course, this means that you need to do well in all of your other classes as well.

So, if you do not feel that you will make A's in honor classes, then I would not take the class because it would be the same as taking a regular class and doing well and making an A.  This is how a lot of high school graduates end up having a GPA over 4.0.  I believe my graduating class had the top 20ish with GPAs over 4.0.  You can't compete with that in well known, large and competitive universities.

Just talk to your guidance counselor at school.  They will tell you exactly how it works for YOUR school.
