Question:

Question About Refrigerator...?

I have a Haier dorm-size refrigerator that has been in storage for a couple of years, I got it out recently to clean up and give to a friend. It seems to run fine & cools efficiently, but the motor (which I can feel since the back is open) is fairly hot to the touch. By hot, I mean I can put my hand on it for maybe 10 seconds before it becomes uncomfortable. I was wondering if this is normal, does anyone know? Thanks!

  1. If it is hot and loud you may want to get a tech to shoot it with compressor oil. It will make it last a lot longer.

  2. This is normal.  Older refrigerators tend to have a older motor that heats up more then newer models.  Just make sure to tell your friend you gave it to - to keep plastic bags or anything that can be melt or catch fire easily.

  3. Coils do tend to get hot.  Thats why they are generally not left unexposed, ie:  are put against the wall.

  4. Yes that's normal, fridge compressors use a lot of power, which causes the high temps.

  5. It's absolutely abnormal

  6. Any household appliance that is too hot to touch is running to hot and is not safe. Please have it checked by an electrician.
