  1. Bowe was a talented fighter, but wasted his potential with bad habits, and bad training. When he did fight, he gave it his all. But as the cliche saying goes "boxing matches are won in the gym."

  2. i suppose we'll never really know why bowe wouldn't fight lewis, but the fights with holyfield really took a lot out of him, and he was faded by the time he fought golota (bowe now slurs his words).

bowe should have made tougher defences of his title to prove himself instead of dokes and ferguson, and he never fought tyson or mercer either.

  3. Riddick Bowe was nothing special he does not make my top 100 heavy weights of all time he was a clown and he ate  his way out of the championships someone above me comparied him to Buster Douglas I agree good call

  4. Bowe could have been one of the best. Like Douglas, he just didn't have the heart and didn't like to train. He is not racist in the least. He is actually very friendly and kinda playful like a big kid. I spent time with him almost every day while he was in Oklahoma training for his fight with Marvin Hill in 2004. We became pretty good friends. I even got into the ring with him for a round. He took it VERY easy on me! If you e-mail me, I'll send you a picture of us.

I am a white guy by the way.

  5. Bowe was a very good heavy in a very weak era for champs and contenders, which continues today. On any ranking of heavyweight champs he is in the bottom 1/3rd.

  6. Riddick Bowe had skills however he didn't have any heart.  Think about after he defeated Holyfield the 1st time, he had a chance to make a mega fight with Lennox Lewis.  Two young undefeated fighters for the heavyweight championship of the world.  However Lennox beat the c**p out of Riddick in the 1988 Olympics so he Riddick didn't want any part of that.  He would rather throw away one of the 3 major championships rather than face Lennox.   As Lennox called him once he was no longer Riddick Bowe but Chicken Bowe.   Riddick struggled with fighters taller or just as tall as him.   Look at the two fights with Andrew Golita, Golita was dominating Riddick in both fights before he was DQ'd.  Golita was nowhere near the boxer that Lennox was.   Riddicks record is outstanding,  however he ducked Lennox & Tyson.  He fought Holyfield three times because he was the bigger & taller fighter & knew he could beat him.   He never took on a challenge or took a chance in his career.   He was an average champion & isn't in the top 20 of all-time heavyweights.
