How Come In The Olympics Professionals Can Play Tennis & Football When Its Ment To Be For Amitures ???

  1. The amateur rule, which had plagued athletes and officials alike since the beginning of the Olympic Games, was finally overturned in 1986.

    It was now up to individual sports groups to determine whether or not "professionals" should be allowed to compete in the Olympics.

    This new rule allowed tennis to return to the Olympic Games, not having appeared since 1924 when it was eliminated because of professional/amateur difficulties.  


  2. I think their only amateur only sport left is boxing.

    This is mainly for safety as amateurs have to ware the head guards where as professionals don't.

  3. The Olympics isn't solely for amateurs. The competing country selects those who they wish to represent their nation to compete in the Olympics, it could be open to practically anyone including professional athletes and amateurs.
