Question About astigmatism?

i have a question about astigmatism. well, actually a few. well, i found out that i have astigmatism but is there a way to see if you have it or how bad it is without going to the eye doctor? and if you have astigmatism then do u usually need glasses? and if there a way to find out if u r farsighted or nearsighted at home too? or a chart that you could print off? im not scared of the doctor but i just wanted to see if there were ways to do it at home too

If you look at something far away and it is blurry and you have to squint to see it better, that is nearsightedness.

If you look at something close to you, like a book, and it's hard to focus, that is farsightedness.

Simple as that; you don't need a chart. If you have either one of these problems, then go to the eye doctor and he/she will make you look into a bunch of lenses to see exactly how bad your eyes are. If they need to be corrected, you can get glasses or contacts.

How did you find out you have astigmatism without going to the doctor?

Astigmatism doesn't always affect you too much, but it also depends on the person; it's just the shape of your eye that is different (kind of football shaped) and that can cause a difference in the way that you see.

I have high astigmatism and a high glasses prescription :-(

In fact i cant get contact lenses because my eyes are so "toric" that they don't make a contact lens suitable for me :-(

So i am stuck with glasses 24/7 from morning to night.... Without them i cant see a great deal and i am only 17 life eh? I have been wearing strong glasses since i was 5!

In answer to your question, yes you normally do need glasses with astigmatism or ..... "toric" contact lenses .... Just ask your optician to be sure ..... I just hope you can get contact lenses bearing in mind it might be glasses for you all the way.... But thats life hope i have helped you out friend. Please let me know how you get on....

Its difficult for me because i want to join the police force

(yes surprisingly my eyesight is ok for them i have checked ...lol)

I guess i will be getting lots of specs broken and busted after all i am anticipating getting into a few scrapes in my line of future work!
