Question For Other Skaters?

Don't you think they should change this catageory to "figure skating" because personally, it's kind of offensive to call it "ice skating" I mean, that's just skating in circles during public sessions.

  1. Not than anyone ever responds, but if this wasn't "ice skating," then where would I put my speed skating questions ("other winter sports"...ew)?  I don't see how calling it ice skating is offensive...it's more inclusive that way.  It's not as if there are so many questions asked in here that it is hard to tell which ones are relevant to your knowledge.

  2. I must admit the first time I went skating, I was one of those who "skated in circles during public session" . . . it was there I was exposed to those who could "really" skate.  They helped me soooo much, so it's kind of nice to be able to "give back" on Y!A and help those who are at their humble beginnings too.  You never know that you may inspire the next figure skating Olympian!

I guess I am not offended because at least WE have a section.  Ice skating covers any sport where you "skate" on "ice" - and we are fortunate that most of us here ARE figure skaters.  I feel bad for the speed skaters because there aren't many that come to this section to answer their questions.  Same with artistic skaters - and ice skating is really their only best category option on Y!A (as it's almost similar to our sport).  There is a hockey section - so those questions that come here are miscategorized and need to go there.

There are other skaters (like inline/aggressive skaters, or skateboarders) who are still fighting for a section on Y!A.  And there are also other big sports who deserve a Y!A category like gymnastics, but they surprisingly don't have one.  Like I said, at least we have a section we can go to.

  3. Yeah what CMP said. It was not nessecarily made for official figure skating, it's ice skating in general. And figure skating is skating on ice and doing tricks, speed skating is skating fast on ice, and ice skating is for recreational skaters. So it's just one big idea.

  4. its for everyone. and speed skaters, figure skaters, pair skaters, and ice dancers all share it because if it was divided into other sections. it would be hard to get a question answered. and to answer questions you'd have to look through each category of skating which is time consuming. the ice skating category isnt as used as the celebrity or elections category. so i think its fine the way it is.

  5. True, but some questions include skating around in a circle during public sessions. And we have to share this section with speed skating, ice dancing, etc.
