Question Marks Regarding Future of Carlo Ancelotti
In the last two months of English Premier League there has been a big turnaround. From being the best team in the league, Chelsea became one of the worst teams of the last two months. Also, Carlo Ancelotti became the man in most
danger, regarding his job as a manager, from being the most stable man in any English Premier League club. The last two months saw Chelsea dropping from the top of the Premier League to the fourth place, despite enjoying a five point advantage at one point.
The abysmal form of Ancelotti puts him under a lot of pressure. Chelsea’s owner, Roman Abramovich, is not known for keeping managers for longer periods which puts a lot of question marks regarding Ancelotti’s future. Everyone knows
that the inevitable is coming, and Ancelotti is going to be fired, but no one knows when Abramovich would become impatient enough to fire his manager. In the meantime, speculations have continued regarding the future of Ancelotti, who is being linked with
a move away from Stamford Bridge.
It has been rumoured that Ancelotti is looking for a move back to Italy. The possible destination would be AS Roma, where the manager used to play as a midfielder as well. Therefore, Ancelotti is greatly admired by the fans as
well as the management at the club. However, the Chelsea’s boss was quick to respond as he rejected all these stories as mere speculations. Another speculation linked him with a job at Real Madrid, which seems too unlikely to even be considered seriously by
Ancelotti.
In a press conference Ancelotti assured the fans that he would stay at Chelsea to see the end of his contract, which expires in 2012. The Chelsea’s boss said that he was not considering for a contract extension at this moment,
as he is focusing more on reshaping Chelsea rather than anything else. Ancelotti also said that the team is in better condition than their previous seasons in English Premier League.
When asked to point out the problem of the poor form, Ancelotti blamed it on injuries to key players. The Blues’ manager said that the team lost players like Alex, John Terry, Frank Lampard, Michael Essien and Didier Drogba, while
replacing them was a daunting task. The manager also brushed aside any suggestions regarding any troubles in the dressing room and he assured everyone that the relationship was going very well with his players.
Although, Ancelotti seems hopeful about the future of his team but the truth is that Chelsea was beaten quite easily by some weaker teams in the past few weeks. Therefore, it seems quite strange when Ancelotti claimed that the
team is getting better from the previous seasons. Chelsea won the league and the FA Cup last season, while they do not look good enough to do the same this season. Previously, Chelsea had a strong enough squad not to be affected by a few injuries, as the substitutions
were quite readily available. Therefore, Chelsea is not going in the right direction at all, and Ancelotti is to be blamed for a lot of things, including his failures in the home matches as well.
Chelsea drew their match against Tottenham Hotspurs, last week. Didier Drogba missed a penalty in that match, which could have given Chelsea a victory after four fixtures in English Premier League. This result really showed that
the Chelsea players are under a lot of pressure, because of their failure to produce results, and Ancelotti is to be blamed for this as well. It is the job of a manager to keep the morale of his player high and if Ancelotti is failing to do that he does not
deserve to lead a world-class side like Chelsea. However, there is still some hope left as Chelsea would face Manchester United this weekend. It might prove to be the last lifeline for Ancelotti and if he fails again he would not stay for long.
