well my 1 1/2 yr old always goes to a certain corner of the house then squat before pooping his diaper... the other day i went and bought a potty chair for his 3 yr old brother... today he saw his brother using the potty... then the next time he went to a corner to squat and p**p he went to the corner i placed the potty in... he was sitting right on the potty (with his diaper on) should i try to train him now... or was that just a consequence...

  1. The best age to train is the summer closest to the child's second birthday. That way you have minimal clothes to deal with, due to the summer weather, and the child is old enough to start to understand what control is.

Potty training is not just about knowing when to go to the potty, but also about knowing when NOT to go in their pants. If you ask a child if they need to go potty, they will tell you 'no' unless the p**p is coming out RIGHT NOW. Unless it's coming out, they don't think they have to go. So you need to take them often. Upon waking in the morning, or from naps, after a meal, and after playing.

Boys are easy to train. Let him wear briefs just like Daddy's (or Bubba's if Dad isn't in the picture). Let Dad or brother take him to the bathroom and show him how to stand up and pee.

The hardest part is NOT going back to diapers. Once you take the diapers away in the daytime, you can't go back.

Oh yes...and don't expect the child to stay dry all night until he is at least 4 years old.

  2. ooh yea you definetly need to potty train him hes just early and thats not a bad thing but i say go for it why not just try at least

  3. I also have a 1 1/2 year old boy. BD 4-03-0-07

He has just began tell us when he has to p**p

he will say potty potty and grab his diaper we have been sitting him on the toilet and sometimes he uses it sometimes no but at least he is getting the idea

    good luck

  4. Yep the sooner the better sounds like he thinks he is ready . Sometimess they regress alittle bit then they realize they do not like being wet or dirty

  5. Pay attention in the next few days to what he does.He maybe ready. Boys are easier to potty train than girls in my opinion.

  6. As long as he his interested it's okay to let him sit on a potty chair, supervised as always.  I would say not to make him sit on the potty, if you force it too early it will become a negative experience for him.  Allow him to sit on the potty and allow him to leave if he doesn't want to sit. Give him praise if he goes, but do not punish him for not using the potty. I work with 2's and 3's.  It's very rare to see kids be potty trained before they are two, but some kids are more developmentally older than others.   Do what feels right, your the parent.

  7. Ask him every now and then if he has to go potty. If he keeps going to his brother's potty, then he very well might be ready to learn!
