Question about Adobe Reader (latest version)?

I have a good one for you guys!!

Is there anyway to configure Adobe Reader so that it auto positions in a file based on the contents of the paste buffer.

Said another way, if I have a .PDF document that contains the name "John Smith", can I place "John Smith" in the paste buffer (using the Windows Copy or cut command for instance) and then have Adobe reader start, find the first occurance of John Smith and then position the cursor there when the reader loads the document?

One way to do this would be to start the find function within Adobe and then paste the contents of the buffer there and send a return to the command console, but I can't see any way to do that from a command line sequence or a configuration (macro, etc)...

All help is greatly appreciated.

  1. I don't think you are going to be able to accomplish what you are talking about unless you have the full version of Adobe Acrobat. Reader is locked down pretty tight, and they do it purposefully, so anyone wishing to modify pdf docs will have to buy the full version.

If you do have the full version, than I would suggest getting the Adobe SDK at their website. It gives full details on all of the programmable fields, and even has some examples you can follow to do what you are talking about.

You can get the SDK (and lots of good info) here :

    Good luck : )
