Question about Airplane Flights?

What is the age a person must be to get on an airplane without an adult? (This summer I'm going to be visiting a friend who had recently moved, I'm 17, but my mom would prefer not to have to go on the flight with me.)

  1. If you are under 18 but 15 and older, you have two options: fly with or without unaccompanied minor service (the minimum age may vary from airline to airline). As stated, between these ages the service for being an unaccompanied minor is completely voluntary.

Below the minimum age, the child is required to have unaccompanied minor service, which comes with a fee (varied depending on airline and connections).

Unaccompanied minor service will get you a flight attendant to look after you and escort you to any connecting gates. They will also seat you in a designated area where they can watch you during flight. During connections, some airports/airlines have designated places where the children can hang out. If you opt for the service you will only be able to connect through select cities (usually Hubs) and will not be able to connect onto the last flight out of a city (for security airlines do not want a child stranded at a connecting city over night). There are other restrictions as well and it would be good to ask whatever airline you travel on for further details. Furthermore, when you opt for unaccompanied minor service, you will need to designate a party that will drop you off at your departure city as well as a party that will pick you up in your destination city. When making the reservation, you should be ready with both party's details, i.e. phone number/address/legal names etc.

  2. it either depends on the airline your taking, or the state i think. im positive it is about 18 or 22

  3. At your age you can go by yourself. I went by myself at age 13

  4. You're way above the minimum age. Much younger people fly all the time. I see 12 year olds and sometimes younger flying alone. At 17 all you need is your ticket and ID.

  5. There is no minimum age, but generally under the age of 14 the kids are escorted on and off the plane before everyone else, and one particular flight attendant is designated to look after them. This happened to me when I was 12, and they always put me up to first class which was wicked. All on Qantas.
