Question:

Question about Airport Express to Kowloon and back

I went to Hongkong last year and it seems that I have to come again this year. At that time, I got the 3 days card which I used going to Kowloon from the airport and back. I didn’t return it and I kept it as a souvenir. I already forgot how much it costs at that time. Can I still use that card? Do I have to do anything special to re-use that card?

This year, I will be staying in Hongkong overnight, 15 hours to be exact so I am thinking the 3 days card is too much for me, but then I want the roundtrip use of Airport Express for Kowloon. What are my other options? I am not going to use the MTR in Kowloon. I will just walk around at Nathan Road and see the night market (again) and sleep at my hotel, so all I really need is transportation fare for: Airport-> Kowloon -> Airport.

Thank you.

  1. 1) Just get a single ticket for the airport express at the airport with cash, 2) jump on the bus to Kowloon to save money 3) get a bus to Tung Chung MTR and then catch the regular MTR to Kowloon Station to save money.

  2. I'm sure you can get a 1 day card, that includes most places.

However you should be able to get a octopus card and top it up with money and then return it for a refund along with any money still left in it.

  3. I'm thinking that the 3 day card you're asking about is the Octopus card. I don't think you'll be able to use that anymore when you go to HK since it was only good for 3 days originally.

The Airport Express terminal in Kowloon is not near Nathan Road that you can walk to it. If you want to take it to and from the airport without taking the MTR your only option is to take a cab. And you can also buy a ticket for the Airport Express beforehand. But from what I remember, it's quite expensive, though I suppose it's cheap enough when you convert it to US dollars.

Another alternative means of transport I can recommend for you that is somewhat cheaper is to take the A21 or E23 bus from Jordan. The bus stop is actually near the night market.
