Question about American citizenship?

If you're from Canada and your 14 and your mother comes to America when you were three and she brings you then marries an american. Does that make the child american also or does he have to apply for citizenship?

I think your mother would become a citizen because she married an american citizen, but I think you still have to apply for citizenship
