I am a stay at home Mum who would like to get into a part-time job.A friend suggested that since I would have liked to have been either a vet nurse or a hairdresser if I had my time over,I would like being an animal groomer.Could anyone tell me what this would involve as it seems like a great suggestion and I would like to try it.Thanks in advance for any answers. Is there much work for an animal groomer. Is late 40s too old to think about this kind of job and does it pay well?I know it would involve grooming dogs but what other animals would I need to know about?

  1. I wanted to own my own dog grooming shop about 30 yrs ago,  so I worked in two different shops (small ones)  for free on the weekends, I had a full time job. thats a good way to learn and see if thats what you want to do.  (I had 2 Afghans that I showed),   I changed my mind after that.   If you really want to be a dog groomer, work in a small, local, independantly  owned shop and see if thats what you really want to do.

  2. I started grooming by getting a part time job as a bather and was eventually trained to groom.  I have now been grooming for 5 years now and love it.  We have a lady that started a little before me and she is in her 40's.  It's never to late do do something if you put your mind to it!  There are differences between being a bather and a groomer.  Both are great jobs and can pay well.  I would call around and see if you can get a part time job helping at a grooming salon, or bathing.  Then you could see if you truely want to do it.

A message board for groomers is also a great place to find information or even someone willing to train.
