  1. According to Peruvian custom regulations, the maximum is 10 dvd's or cd's per person. If you plan to bring your whole collection (dont know how many!) you need to declare them and pay the according tax. They tax them according to the price a dvd film has on the market (like 20 bucks!) and then the tax is a percentage of the total cost. I dont know about Canada letting them out of the country. Another issue will be if the dvds are either legal or a copy you've done of movies (it's illegal to bring those through customs although in Peru the black pirate market is huga and sort of legal) he only way you can get away without declaring them is if you scatter them amongst 3 or 4 suitcases but if you get red light at customs they will open everything and if you havent declared them you'll pay a fine on top of the tax.

Why dont you ship them through DHL or UPS? This way you wont have any trouble and the cost will be less.

  2. DO NOT send them via UPS and especially not DHL.  Anything you send will be opened and subject to outrageous taxes.  I once tried to send an unactivated SIM card for a sat phone down there via DHL, and they sent a bill for $188 for customs.  I had the shipment rejected and washed my hands of it.

I go to Peru several times a year and they have kind of a hokey system for baggage checks.  The previous answer was technically correct as far as what is allowed to be brought in, but that's not the sort of thing they're looking for.  When you go through customs, you push a button that supposedly randomly turns a light green or red.  If it's green, you pass through without inspection.  If it's red, you put your bags through x-ray.  Since they've gone to this system, I've never had my bags opened after the x-ray check, and I take ALL KINDS of stuff.  It helps to not be a Peruvian.

They're mainly concerned with Peruvians bringing back dutiable items like computers, video game consoles, televisions, etc, and not so much with a tourist's DVD collection.  I personally wouldn't worry a l**k about it.  Just put them in a nice soft case in your backpack and don't say a word.  Or you could use a program like pqdvd (pqdvd.com), burn them to your ipod and just take the ipod.

I have no idea about getting back to Canada since I'm American, but if they're the same as here in the US, if you're taking back your own personal collection of non-pirated DVD's, even if they inspect you, it's no problem.

Excuse me Damitz III, can you explain the reason why you have copy/pasted my answer into your answer? It is not from wikipedia, that is clearly seen from the language written. It is from my personal experience and I find it a bit rude to copy/paste an answer which is already posted.

Check wikipedia for yourself and you wont find what I've posted. I DARE you to prove it is from Wiki. Those are my own words so you have commited plagiarism.

Please refrain from doing this to me or any other answerer.
