Question:

Question about Beach Volleyball Finals?

I was watching beach volleyball marcio and fabio vs. Rogers and Dalhausser (sorry if misspelled) and I just like totally fell in love with the sport. I was wondering like what would it take to train and become a pro beach volleyball player and possibly go to the olympics.

But the thing is I'm live in Spring, Texas and I don't hear much about it. Does anyone know about a location in Texas where it's big? Or simply how to get people hyped up about it?

All answers appreciated,

  1. Any of the big cities in Texas (including Houston) have beach volleyball. Just search Google.  Many city parks have courts or buildings that are specially built to house sand volleball courts.  The bottom line is, if you don't live in or near a major city, or near a beach of moderate size, you won't find beach volleyball. Overall, it's associated with affluent or cosmopolitan areas. I can tell you, if you're not at least 6'2", I wouldn't consider a pro beach volleyball career.  There are a couple of guys under 6' on the pro tour, but they have freakishly high vertical leaps (40 inch range), and even then, they never place high in tournaments.  If you're serious though, and tall, you're best bet is to move to Southern California, specifically L.A. and hit the sand.  Beach volleyball is very clickish, and it will be tough to get in with the crowd. Find a group of recreational players to cut your teeth with, and build basic skills.  Then, move on down to where the big boys play, and start fighting your way up the chain. Like any sport, the odds of making it pro are very very very small. There's huge talent in Cali, literally thousands of top level players, and only about 50 guys on the pro tour.  Again though, if you're short without ups, and not gifted athletically, take up bowling instead.
