Question about Blu-Ray Disc audio quality...?

I plan on purchasing a Samsung BD-P1400 Blu-ray Disc Player tonight...

Will this player decode 5.1 Dolby TrueHD for output through the 5.1 Channel Analog Output? If so, should I use better cables?

Thanks in advance!

  1. The only way to get the FULL audio quality out of your Samsung Blu-ray Disc player is to use the "5.1ch Analog Output".   The fiber optic will only give you regular "Dolby Digital" or "DTS" and your Harmon Kardon can't take advantage of most forms of uncompressed audio over an HDMI cable.

Out of the 3 available HD audio formats, your Samsung can internally decode "Uncompressed PCM" and "DolbyTrueHD".  Unfortunately it can't output the "DTSHD Master Audio" through the "5.1ch Analog Output" without first down-converting it into standard "DTS".

  2. Sounds like you got all your stuff at Bestbuy. Well if your HK is one of the first series that came out you will need a digital source like a fiber optic. Do that and i pretty sure youll be satified with the quality of sound youll receive.

  3. I would use HDMI if you could.  I have a Harmon Kardon AVR-247 and use this.  It's the easiest way to connect for picture and sound.  It sounds like you already have a really good connection.  I've never believed in buying the most expensive cables.  I've never noticed a difference.  However, I have noticed a difference in quality with different HDMI cables.  I bought some cheap HDMI cables off ebay and they are not always dependable.  I don't think you need to get Monster Cables, but I wouldn't recommend a cheap cable off ebay.
