Question about Borax?

Question

I just bought some for my bedroom and i used my bare hand (no skin irritation) and sprinkled it around everywhere on the carpet n rubbed it in a little (the carpet is really low carpet so you can kinda see the powder here and there), but any ways I was wondering how long will it take to see signs of less insects? and is it ok to get a little on the feet when i walk around ..i've heard of ppl leaving it on the carpet for weeks....
